You will get up early and revisit the Taj Mahal today to see it as the sun rises. It took 22 years and 20,000 men to build, and during this tour, you’ll find out that its white marble was quarried 200 miles away and delivered by a fleet of 1,000 elephants. Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor, commissioned the construction of the Taj Mahal as a tribute to his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

In the afternoon, you’ll travel to the Yamuna River to see the Agra Fort, a magnificent piece of Mughal architecture that served as the capital and bulwark of the Mughal Empire for many decades. After seeing the fort, your driver will transport you back to your hotel, and the rest of the day is on your own.

The city of Jaipur, India, was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727 and is located about 149 miles (240 km) to the west of your current location. Jaipur is one of a kind because it is divided into nine sectors that correspond to the nine regions of the universe, and its architecture fuses the Mughal and Jain styles. The city gained its nickname, “Pink City,” after being painted extensively in that hue in 1853.

The city of Fatehpur Sikri is on the route to Jaipur, and it was supposedly abandoned by Emperor Akbar 15 years after it was founded in 1569 due to a lack of water.
